What Goes Into Odyssey Replacement Siding?
The first step in siding replacement is removing the existing material on your home down to the sheathing. Wall sheathing is 4x8 plywood used primarily as structural material and is attached to the exterior wall framing to prevent the walls from swaying or bending. For siding replacement purposes, sheathing is used as a nailing base.
Water and weather-resistant barriers are part of the exterior wall systems that protect wall sheathing from water penetration. Water-resistant barriers act like a shell for your home - water vapor can escape; however, any liquid penetrating your siding will not pass through. Once the sheathing on your walls is inspected and replaced if needed, the water-resistant barrier is applied.
J-channel is a trim piece used on the end of a siding or soffit panel to align the edge around windows, doors, and other connections. It is specifically designed for trimming out openings around your wall panels - so that the walls of your building blend seamlessly. Aside from aesthetics, J-channel can also serve as a diverter - diverting water above windows and doors that would otherwise get behind your siding.
There are two main ways that insulation is installed with siding: behind or within the siding itself. When insulation is installed behind the siding, it is placed between the siding and the wall of the house. This type of insulation is typically made of fiberglass or cellulose and is installed in sheets or rolls. The insulation is cut to fit between the wall studs and is held in place with adhesive or mechanical fasteners. Insulation is integrated into the siding panels when installed within the siding itself. This type of insulation is typically made of foam or different insulation materials. It is designed to provide insulation and a protective outer layer for the home. This type of siding is typically more energy efficient than siding without insulation because it allows for a continuous barrier between the inside and outside of the house.
Siding panels are panels of material that are used to cover the exterior walls of a building. Siding panels are typically made of wood, vinyl, or other materials and are installed outside the building to protect from the elements. Siding panels are a vital component of a building's exterior, and they can significantly impact the building's appearance and energy efficiency.
